📖 George's story
By George J. Matus
On May 27, 2025, my life changed in an instant.
What began as an ordinary day ended with a devastating accident that left me with a spiral fracture of my left femur, just below the hip socket. The injury was severe, and the pain was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
Within hours, surgeons inserted a titanium rod into my leg to hold the shattered bone together. As I lay in the hospital bed, unable to stand and uncertain about what the future held, I realized that everything I had taken for granted—walking, working, driving, even getting out of bed—would now become a challenge.
At seventy-one years old, I suddenly found myself starting over.
The weeks that followed tested every ounce of patience I possessed.
Learning to walk again wasn't just physical—it was emotional. Every step with the walker felt like climbing a mountain. Some days the pain seemed unbearable. Other days the frustration of depending on others weighed even heavier than the injury itself.
Physical therapy became my new job.
Tiny victories became major celebrations. Standing without assistance. Taking a few extra steps. Sleeping through the night without pain. Sitting in a chair instead of lying in bed all day. Most people would never think twice about these simple things, but for me they became milestones of hope.
There were days when I wondered if I would ever fully recover.
Yet in those quiet moments of doubt, I also found something unexpected.
I found gratitude.
I became thankful for every therapist who encouraged me, every family member who helped me, every prayer that was offered, and every friend who reached out with a simple message asking how I was doing.
Most importantly, I discovered that my faith was stronger than my fear.
I was reminded that God never promised a life without storms, but He did promise to walk with us through every one of them.
Recovery has been slow. Even today my balance isn't what it once was, and there are days my leg reminds me of what happened with every step I take.
But I've learned something profound:
Healing isn't measured by how fast you recover.
Healing is measured by refusing to quit.
My accident forced me to slow down and reevaluate what truly matters. Success isn't just about money, accomplishments, or business anymore. It's about relationships, purpose, gratitude, and using whatever platform God has given me to encourage others.
If you're reading this while facing your own struggle—whether it's physical, emotional, financial, or spiritual—I want you to know that today's pain does not have to define tomorrow's story.
Keep taking the next step.
Sometimes recovery happens one inch at a time.
Sometimes miracles come disguised as persistence.
I don't know exactly what the future holds, but I do know this:
I survived.
I am healing.
I am grateful.
And as long as God gives me another sunrise, I will continue encouraging others to never give up.
Because hope is stronger than fear.
Faith is stronger than pain.
And one step forward—even a small one—is still progress.
Thank you for reading my story and God Bless You!

Help A Human™ – A Different Kind of Crowdfunding
Several years ago, my friend Jeff asked himself a simple question:
**"What if helping another human being could be as easy as sharing a link?"**
From that simple idea, **Help A Human™** was born.
Rather than creating just another fundraising website, our vision was to build a community-driven platform where people could come together to support one another during life's unexpected challenges. Whether someone is facing a medical emergency, recovering from an accident, struggling with financial hardship, pursuing an educational dream, or simply needing a helping hand, Help A Human provides a place where compassion meets action.
Our belief has always been that **people genuinely want to help—they simply need a trusted way to do it.**
Help A Human empowers individuals to create fundraising campaigns that can be shared with family, friends, and social media communities around the world. Every campaign tells a story, and every donation becomes an opportunity to restore hope.
But Help A Human is about much more than money.
It's about reminding people that they are not alone.
It's about neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming friends, and communities uniting around a common purpose: making someone's burden a little lighter.
In a world that often feels divided, Help A Human exists to demonstrate that kindness still matters and generosity still changes lives.
We built this platform because we believe one simple act of compassion can create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond a single donation.
When we help one human, we inspire many others to do the same.
Because at the end of the day, we're all walking this journey together—and sometimes all it takes is one person willing to help another human.
